SE Regionals - Monson bring home huge medal haul

Over the bank holiday weekend Monson took a team of 10 athletes to High Wycombe to participate in the 2017 South East Regional Championships.

We came away with four golds, three silvers, and 8 bronze medals. Thomas Leman swept the breaststroke events, winning the 50m, 100m, and 200m events, posting top 10 times in Great Britain in the process. He also came from behind in the 200 individual medley (IM) to finish in 4th place, just outside the medals.

James Beale also produced a fine 200m Breast time gaining a final place. Annabel Guye-Johnson returned from qualifying for World Championships in Sheffield to retain her 100m breaststroke title in a dominant fashion, winning by 5 metres.

Caitlin Fearon racked up four medals - in the 200m and 400m individual medley and the 200m and 400m freestyle. Mia Burns finalled in all the butterfly events, coming away with a silver in the 100m butterfly, and a bronze in the 200m event. Fellow medley swimmer Maddie Burton had a strong showing finishing in the top 10 in no less than five events.

Aidan Crewe fought hard to place just outside the top 10 in the 200m backstroke, Toby Dray did a personal best in the 50m butterfly with a time of 29.10 to finish in the top 20, and Holly Hobbs swam in the 50m breaststroke also finishing in the top 20.

Andre Strydom had a weekend to remember, finishing the meet with six medals. He came second in the 50m butterfly, 400 IM and 200m backstroke, and third in the 200m IM, 400m freestyle and 100m butterfly.

Head Coach Simon Morley said after the meet, "It was a fantastic meet for us. The Monson swimmers showed great character throughout . Even on the last day the athletes produced great results and raced hard."
